Historical information This town has ancient origins. The Gaelic helmet found in Vallesella and some Celtic tombs discovered in the center of this town proves these origins. In 1771 behind the tabernacle of the old parish a Latin inscription was discovered which said that the alter was built in 809 under the reign of Pope Leone III and the emperor Carlo Magno. In 1208 the parish was declared free from the subordination from the parish of Pieve and in 1394 their statutes were written. Before this town belonged to Scaffardo Domegge then passed under the dominion of the Caminesi; and finally with all the Cadore belong under the reign of Venice until 1797. This town also took part, from 1508 to 1513, in the fight provoked by the Lega di Cambrai. One should also visit Valmassoni house, a very elegant building from 500; the Parish of St. George which also holds a painting by Marco Vecellio; the church of Madonna del Molinà, which has a polygonal irregular base; the small Gothic church of S. Leonardo (1430) in the village of Grea.
