The Lake of Alleghe lies in the high valley of the Cordevole, at 46.24' latitude and 0.26' longitude. Its origins are fairly recent about the year 1771. Its creation is due to a mud slide.

It is an artificial lake which was created after the construction of the dam of S. Caterina. A part of the Auronzo country side was submerged by water, changing the environment radically for the better. Since then, the summer holiday business in this area has gained a lot of clients.

It is an artificial lake made from the dam on the river Piave, and built in Sottocastello (Pieve di Cadore). The lake spreads all the length of the valley of Centro Cadore.

The lakes are situated in the karstic depression of Foses, surrounded by a large peat bog. The Foses lakes include: the Lake Gran, Lake Pizo, and Remeda Rossa Lake. The Foses plateau has a great panoramic value and it is of great scientific interest for its karstic phenomenon, the lakes and the vegetation.

Thanks to its great geographic positioning (it is near Cortina and Pusteria) and also due to its fascinating landscape, the Misurina lake has become since the past century one of the most visited areas in the Dolomite by the tourists. It was also the ideal meeting point of the most famous world rock climbers.

It is a small alpine lake surrounded by woods in a very pretty and colorful place. It is possible to go trout fishing in its deep water. On the lake there is a chalet called "Chalet S. Anna" which offers a restaurant service (with local dishes) a bar and a solarium.

It is the powerful seasonal stream on the sides of the Croda Rossa which creates the lakes. The lakes are naturalistic and the landscape jewels: the white lake, covering almost all, the beautiful grassy areas; the Negro Lake, surrounded by cherry trees, home of many migrating birds; Rufiédo Lake, from where the water descends to the Felizon valley.
