On top of the historical center of Feltre a provincial road that coasts the mountain begins and heads north. Follow this road and pass the towns of Foen and Villabruna and as soon as you pass the bridge over the Caorame Stream, you will finally reach the county of Cesiomaggiore. This county is made up of two-thirds high peaks and wild mountains, the ones that crown the long Canzoi Valley, and the third part is made up of the nice and sunny country hillside that rolls all the way to the Piave River. The first town that we encounter is Soranzen, located at the beginning of the Canzoi Valley. In the center we can find the beautiful villa Martini dated back to the XVIII century. If we proceed along the provincial road, which crosses beautiful fields, cultures and picturesque little town, we arrive to Cesiomaggiore (12 km away from Feltre). The town is dominated by it thin tower bell. It is protected on the northern side by the Tre Pietre Mountain (1965 m) and it stands on the old Roman military road Claudia Augusta Altinate, which connected the Adriatic Sea to the Danube River. As a testimony to this ancient road, an engraved military stone was found under the altar of the parish and is now kept in the "Centenere" villa. In the parish in addition to a few paintings dated to the 1600's and 1700's an ancient baptismal fountain can also be found. In the town of Cesiomaggiore, a few beautiful buildings with a particular architectural structure stand out such as the Corrà and Muffoni villas. But it is all of this country territory that offers testimonies of such nature: all of the hills that reach to the Piave River have dominical houses, villas, castle remains and churches. Sometimes, they are not too well preserved but it is also possible to see some of these building in perfect condition still lived in and so fascinating because of the splendid surroundings as well. The beautiful Caorame Stream, which runs amongst these hills, completes the scenery. The villas that deserve to be visited are Dal corno in Cesiominore, Petricelli in Montebello, Zugni in Tussui and in Pez, De Mezzan and Menin. Special attention should be paid to villa Tauro in Pez, also called "le Centenere", built between the 1500's and 1600's. During the following century it became a cultural and lively center. It was robbed during the invasion of 1917: many art collections were stolen or damaged, only a few of them are still visible (it is possible to see a milestone of the Claudia Augusta Road, which used to located just over the Piave River, near Cesiomaggiore). In the many churches and oratories of this area, paintings and pieces of local artist's work can be found. Of great interest, because of its environmental, architectural, and artistic value the sanctuary of the "Madonnetta" located in Pez should be visited: inside there is a beautiful painting cycle by Agostino Ridolfi (1675 c.) which testifies to the widespread culture of the local painters in the art of the "tenebrismo" (a painting style). From Cesiomaggiore to San Gregorio of the Alps, runs an old provincial road that is extremely curvaceous and rarely utilized but it follows the profiles of the mountainside making a very beautiful environmental and natural scenery visible. From Cesiomaggiore to Santa Giustina, there is quick connection with an exit to San Gregorio, which leads to the state road from Santa Giustina to Feltre (on the right) and to Belluno (on the left). From Cesiomaggiore, going back toward Soranzen, follow on your right a carriage road, which allows entrance to the wild Canzoi Valley, placed between Mt. Tre Pietre (1965 m) and Mt. S. Mauro (1836 m), and where the cold waters of the Caorame Stream run through. At the end of the valley, over the clean waters of the artificial lake della "Stua", it reflects the huge Dolomite mountain called Sass da Mur (2550 m). From this lake, many trails and paths begin, which will take you to the Dolomite peaks of Cimonega (very interesting for mountain climbers), to the suggestive fields of Erera-Brandol and to reach the l'Alta Via delle Dolomiti n.2, and to the Trentino Valleys in Primiero. This mountain, with its wild and solitary charm is a safe refuge for many animals and floral species.
