Lentiai became the real administrative and legislative center of all of this area, which spreads into the Cesana county, in 1866. This town soon became an important and vital center. Cesana, with its castle transformed radically after the first World War, and the Pretorio Palace, is the town that had a fundamental role in history and for the people who live nearby. Wars, assaults, devastations, changes, famine periods or prosperous periods are just a few of the episodes that this castle went through. It is believed to have been built during the Longobard period and just after 1311, it was moved from its old location on top of a hill to an inside land right in front of the Pretorio Palace. The palace, instead, was built between the XVI and XVII centuries and it still holds many architectural elements of great interest such as two windows with fully stucco decorated balconies on the northern side of the building or the "noble level" with its fresco wall: the representation of scenaries, venetian masks and chivalry. Also, on the first level, there are a few ceilings, which represent the typical "Sansovina" arches. But the "pearls" which fully represent the beauty of Lentiai are the Santa Maria Assunta church, now a national monument, which holds many valuable altar pieces by Tiziano, a complete cycle of pieces of work by Cesare Vecellio and, in particular, the ceiling covered with twenty paintings depicting the "life of Mary". Pian di Coltura, which in the green season is enchanting with its Narcissus, during the winter attracts many people who are fans of the "white sports". Children often visit this town because an important skiing competition is usually held here. But Lentiai, since a long time ago, has been able to propose and teach Alpine skiing which is a sport perfectly suited to this special environment. The classic ski crossing Pianezze-Lentiai can be considered one of the top-appointments for such sports and it allows one of the most stunning encounters with panoramas such as: Mount Cesen, Mariech, the panoramic ridge of Mount Garda, Col dei Piatti, Col Moscher, all the way to Stabie, Pian di Coltura and, naturally, to the center of Lentiai.
