Trichiana

Accessibility The origin of Trichiana and all of its territory is very ancient and dates back to the fifth and sixth century after Christ. We would also like to point out that there are Neolithic findings of Nareon (10000- 5000 BC) as a proof of a primitive human settlement. There is a lot of archeological documentation which testifies to the Roman presence in this area such as: the urn of the Roman citizen, Caio Durenio Secondo (235 AD), kept in the city hall entrance and 42 silver coins (90- 220 AD), now kept in the Civic Museum of Belluno. It also seems that the ancient tower of Casteldardo also dates back to the Roman era and was then incorporated into a medieval castle. The county Coat of Arms pictures the Casteldardo castle and the bridge over the Ardo Stream in honor of its past, which is connected to the epic events of this famous fortress (that was hard-fought for its particular and strategic position between the Belluno/Feltre citizens and the Treviso citizens). As a testimony to a famous battle between these two sides, there is a fragment of a document that is believed to be one of the first documents written in Italian (1193). This land has produced many talented athletes in many different disciplines such as ice-skating, track and field, skiing, and cross-country running. These athletes represent the spirit and the simplicity of the Belluno citizens. During the winter there are many sports available for tourists: cross-country skiing in the beautiful, natural environment of the Melere trail, two rinks which cover a total area of 5 km, or ice-skating on the icy surface of the Lotto complex located at the center of the town.
