Historical information Clean white houses are characteristic of the two villages of S.Nicolò and Costa, which are surrounded by the majestic Dolomite, perfumed fields and giant fir trees. There are also two other smaller villages named Costa and Gera. It seems that the name of S.Nicolò came from the Saint protector of this town. The same name was used for an ancient church, mentioned in a document dated back to the XI century. This town originated from a group of windmills and iron shops. In fact, to the end of the Venetian Republic, there was a flourishing iron industry that came from the mining area of Longerin mountain. It was then melted, cleaned and finally taken into Gera where the workers employed it in the creation of agricultural equipment and kitchen tools. A very prestigious and artist church is dedicated to the Patron Saint. On one of the two arches there is the inscription of its original construction, dated 1383.
